Amazon has removed a coronavirus themed Halloween mask after receiving criticism.
The mask has been labelled as ‘hugely distasteful’ and the company has agreed to remove it from its UK website. The mask resembles the SARS-CoV-2019 virus, along with added eyes and teeth.
They were listed by marketplace sellers based in China and being sold for up to £30. One seller wrote in the description that the mask will leave ‘an amazing and lasting impression.’
The controversial mask comes as the global death toll for coronavirus reached 1 million people.
The masks have attracted criticism by Rachel Power, Chief Executive of the Patients Association.
She said: ‘These masks show a terrible lapse of judgement by the manufacturers and sellers, and I hope they will be removed from sale quickly.
‘I’ve no doubt the great majority of people will find them hugely distasteful, and I can’t imagine that many people would wish to wear one.’
