Wales to ban smoking in all public grounds in March 2021
Wales is set to become the first place in the UK to introduce new smoke-free restrictions for school grounds, hospital grounds, public playgrounds and outdoor children’s care settings.
The restrictions are due to come into effect from 1 March 2021, the Health Minister has announced today.
This will make Wales the first country in the UK to legislate for bans on smoking at playgrounds and school grounds.
The news comes a big relief for non-smokers in Wales who have campaigned for many years the ban.
Campaigner Robert Ash, who changed his name by deed poll to lead his private crusade told Global247news from his Swansea home: ” It’s a great result, children should not have to be affected by fag smoke for instance in a school playground, it should have been brought in years ago, the same time as pubs, to have left it to go on for as long as it has was disgraceful, take a look at any School in Swansea for example and you will see all the mothers outside and inside the playground gossiping and puffing away without a care in the world, it’s the same as you visit someone in hospital, the grounds are full of dirty smokers inflicting others with their habit, it’s a sight for sore eye’s sometimes, you even see patients on oxygen tubes dragging away on fags,”
“My campaign is not over yet though – no we get on to getting smoking made illegal full stop, we need to follow the prisons where they all have to vape now” he finished.
