Bars in the Palace of Westminster are exempt from the 10pm Covid-19 curfew.
It has been revealed that the bars are one of the few places you can be served alcohol passed 10pm. MPs are allowed to meet up and drink there due to a loophole in the new restrictions.
The bars in Parliament have been classed as ‘workplace canteens.’ They can remain open as ‘there’s no practical alternative for staff to obtain food.’
It is also believed that customer contact details do not have to be taken and face masks are not mandatory.
Sacha Lord, the night-time economy adviser for Greater Manchester, tweeted: ‘Parliament’s own bar has been made exempt from the 10pm curfew and doesn’t have to take down anyone’s details. I’d like to say I’m surprised… but I’m really not.’
Piers Morgan is among those to have criticised the move on social media. He tweeted that the exemption was ‘absolutely outrageous’.
