Panic buying is unnecessary as Tesco sets three-item limit

People in the UK are starting to stockpile in in case of a second wave of the pandemic, but Tesco has told shoppers that panic buying is ‘unnecessary’.

To cope with panic buyers, the supermarket chain has introduced a three-item limit on its products. The items include dried pasta, flour, toilet roll, baby wipes and anti bacterial wipes.

Reassuring customers, Tesco have said they have enough stock and are prepared for a second wave of the pandemic. The limit is to prevent shortages due to bulk buying.

A Tesco spokesperson said: ‘We have good availability, with plenty of stock to go round, and we would encourage our customers to shop as normal. To ensure that everyone can keep buying what they need, we have introduced bulk-buy limits on a small number of products.

To help our customers shop safely, we will also have colleagues at the entrances of our larger stores to remind customers about the safety measures we have in place, including the legal requirement to wear a face covering.’

At the start of the pandemic  customers were fighting outside supermarkets at 6am in order to get their goods.

Tesco CEO has said ‘We just don’t want to see a return to unnecessary panic buying because that creates a tension in the supply chain that’s not necessary,’

Tesco are following Morrisons who put restrictions in place on Thursday.  Global247News Twitter
