Colin Weir documents reveal spent 100k a week after winning the Euro lottery and buying his life long football club.
Colin Weir, who became Scotland’s biggest lottery winner when he and wife Christine scooped £161 million in 2011, died in December, aged 71 but boy did he go out in style after his windfall.
Football fans especially across the globe give him legendry status as he carried out most fans dream and bought 55 per cent of his life long club Partick Thistle to ensure the club belonged to the community.
Weir bought a 55 per cent stake in Partick Thistle a month before he died so he could donate the club to the fans and put its future in the hands of the local community and that was after funding the club for many years prior.
Colin had suffered years of ill health and probably knew he wasn’t going to live for long so went on the spending spree.
At the time of his death, he lived in a £1.1million five-bedroom seafront home in Ayr, which he bought in June 2018 after his marriage split from his previous wife Christine Weir.
Colin loved his motors with a collection in his garage of a vintage Bentley Arnage, worth £10,000, a £28,250 three-year-old Jaguar F-Pace SUV, a £24,000 four-year-old Mercedes Benz E Class Estate and a 2019 Mercedes Benz V Class people carrier, valued at about £35,000 as well as racehorses but it was his football club that meant everything to him.
Football pundit Adam Brown, who operates ” Football With Brownie” on social media channel Youtube today told Global247news how he’s admired around the world by football fans:
” Colin Weir – what a footballing legend, struck lucky and shared it with his football club and then buying them to secure their future, that’s what you call a real fan”
” We get comments weekly about his actions from all over the world,” Brown said.
“Only real fans will understand the sentiment, by way of real fans I mean true supporters to their local cub, not plastics who follow a club from miles from their home town, they are just glory hunters”
” Colin Weir- real fans salute you across the world” Brown finished.
