Breaking: Closing times for UK pubs and restaurants confirmed for 10pm

Downing Street announced the news this Monday evening and there will be an official press conference and public announcement Tuesday.

It comes as the UK’s Covid-19 alert level moves to 4, meaning transmission is “high or rising exponentially”.

More details will be confirmed tomorrow during a live broadcast at 8pm GMT.

The government’s chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance warned there could be 50,000 new coronavirus cases a day by mid-October without further action – which, he said, could lead to more than 200 deaths per day by mid-November.

On Monday, a further 4,368 daily cases and 11 deaths were reported in the UK. There were 3,899 cases reported on Sunday.

The restaurant and pub industry in the UK took a hammering during the coronavirus pandemic with many establishments closing permanently due to lack of customers and money and have begged the government not to impose another nationwide lockdown.

The UK has gradually been increasing restrictions as coronavirus cases rise, with people barred from meeting in large groups, but is still less significant than the lockdown imposed between March and May this year.  Global247News Twitter
