Spanish Minister says Spain will not renounce its claim on the British territory Gibraltar
Spain will not renounce its claim to the British territory of Gibraltar, Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya said this morning, as the two countries negotiate the future relationship between Spain and the rock of Gibraltar now that Britain has left the European Union.
In an interview with the radio station COPE, Gonzalez Laya said the Spanish claim did not prevent the two countries working to build shared prosperity for Gibraltar and the adjacent Spanish border region.
Although in Gibraltar the residents on the British rock say they have heard it all before and will take no notice.
Darren Simmons who works in the gaming industry in Gibraltar said: “Here we go again, they never give up and I don’t think they ever will”
“All they are trying to do in reality is an attempt to ensure the safety of the 30,000 plus Spanish who come over daily for employment – that’s all this is about,” he claimed.
