Pontypool's Chris Watkins In induced Coma on Spain's Tenerife

Chris Watkins from Pontypool South Wales is an induced Coma in Spain after a poolside accident

Chris and a group of friends were taking a break on Spain’s holiday island Tenerife when tragedy struck.

He was playing poolside when he dived into the hotel pool in Playa de las Americas and hit his head on the bottom of the pool.

As the hotel’s lifeguards witnessed the action, they dived into the pool to rescue the Welshman although being retrieved from the pool Chris had clearly broken his neck and couldn’t feel his body.

He currently is in hospital in Tenerife in Santa Cruz whilst his family have now set up a Go Fund Me Campaign to raise £20,000 to pay his medical expenses and return him back to Wales when he comes out of his current coma.

Chris’s Go Fund Me page reads:

“Christopher has had a life-changing accident during a holiday in Tenerife.
As a family, we are all in a state of shock and disbelief and we are all completely devastated, being in a foreign country means that family members and friend cannot see him or support his mother father and two daughters who are in Tenerife at the moment.
“Christopher is a fun-loving vibrant person who everyone loves, he is full of energy and he is everyone’s friend.”
The plea from his family and the news of the accident has shocked many in the town of Pontypool, Dai Evans told Global247news
” It’s come as a great shock to the town, Chris is such a kind-hearted fun guy, very friendly and a well known Pooler, it’s tragic he’s got a granddaughter just 3 years old as well who he so proud of, I really hope the town can come together and raise the funds to get Chris home and aid his recovery from this awful accident”
