After a lorry driver died in a smash on the M5 motorway, a man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Dangerous driving costs a lorry driver his life in M5 smash: At 5.20am on Sunday morning, Gloucestershire police were called to reports of a Ford Fiesta losing control on the northbound carriageway of the M5. A police force spokeswoman said that a lorry had stopped and the driver was checking on the welfare of the car driver and protecting it from other vehicles on the motorway when a second lorry collided with the first.
The driver of the second lorry died at the scene. He was a 37-year-old man from Bristol. The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a 21-year-old man was arrested by police at the scene of the accident on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs and drink.
He was questioned at a local police station and released under investigation. The M5 motorway was closed in both directions from junctions 9 to 11 after the accident. Local police said if anyone has dash cam footage of the smash or witnessed it would they please come forward to help them with their inquiries.
