A huge drugs haul has been found off the coast of Gibraltar.
The drama started at 9.30am on Wednesday when Customs received information of a suspect rigid inflatable boat travelling at speed through British Gibraltar Territorial Waters. 400 Kg of Cannabis Resin with a street value of over £2million were thrown into the sea by smugglers.
The boat was chased by Customs Officers in HMC Searcher. It evaded capture while those on board threw the bales of cannabis resin into the sea. The vessel gained distance through the rough seas and HMC Searcher aborted the chase, Customs said in a statement.
A total of 13 bales of cannabis resin were retrieved during a search conducted in the area.
