British holiday maker Joan Clark died as she plunged 150 feet whilst on holiday on Spain’s Costa del Sol

The incident took place when the woman’s husband who was driving a hire car, left the road.

The husband, William survived the shocking accident. However, the accident left Husband William fighting for his life after the vehicle ‘fell backwards over a drop’ and down into a ravine.

It was on their first day of arrival in Spain’s Malaga on the Costa del Sol. And the couple were simply traveling to buy a parasol to protect them from the sun.

As they arrived at the property to make the purchase, the hire car drove over gravel and fell backwards over the 150-metre drop. Which killed Sixty-five-year-old Joan instantly.

The tragedy happened on Febuary the 10th this year and an inquest in to the death heard how the property was on a steep hill. And it was suggested that William reversed the car ‘to get a good run at it’.

In his statement read out at the inquest, William said. “I was driving a hired Peugeot on the road from Malaga Airport to our apartment.”

“Joan was in the passenger’s side. We stopped off at a property on a hill, when the owner of the property suggested I reversed back to get a good run at the hill.

“I reversed on to the gravel, but the car fell backwards over a drop.”

South Staffordshire coroner Andrew Haigh concluded that Joan died as a result of a road traffic collision.

He said: “Her and her husband have an apartment in Malaga.

“On February 10 they went out to visit their property. They hired a Peugeot car in order to get to the property and Mr Clark was driving. The decided to visit a property with a view to buying a parasol and that property was on a steep hill.”

“There was a suggestion made by the owner to reverse the vehicle to get it to run at the hill. Mr Clark does that, but reverses on to some gravel and then comes off the road.

“Sadly the car then goes over a drop which is suggested to be 150 metres. As a result of that crash Mrs Clark is killed.

“I would like to convey my condolences for the very tragic circumstances of this death.”
