The university lecturer was giving a Zoom call to her students due to the coronavirus and suddenly collapsed and died.
Covid-19: Teacher dies whilst on Zoom: Paola de Simione, 46, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, was giving a lecture when she suddenly started having respiratory problems.
Ms Simione collapsed holding her chest whilst on video with her students crying for her to give them her address so they could get help.
Ms Simione had told her students last month she had been suffering from symptoms related to coronavirus.
She wrote: “It is very complicated. I have been here [with the virus] for more than four weeks and the symptoms do not go away.
“My husband (a doctor) is exhausted from working so much at the moment.”
Paramedics reached her apartment but she pronounced dead in hospital.
The university where Ms Simione taught politics and international relations in Buenos Aires paid tribute.
A statement read: “Paola was a passionate and dedicated teacher, and a great person.”
One student paid tribute to the teacher on Twitter.
She wrote: “That she encourages you in all your projects, that she teach you more than what the schedule indicates, that she knows how to share the laughter and make you feel like a colleague. There are few teachers like Paola De Simone.
“Pao, you leave such a big mark. Much strength to your family and friends.”
As of yesterday, Argentina has more than 462,000 coronavirus cases and at least 9,623 fatalities from the virus.
