In Manchester City Centre, several roads have been locked down because a suspicious package was found on a bus.
Shops evacuated as ‘suspicious’ item found as a precaution and police remain at the scene. Greater Manchester Police were called to the scene at around 1.15pm today and have cordoned off the area.
Councillor Pat Karney told Manchester Evening News at the scene: ‘There are four ambulances, numerous police vehicles, a helicopter. All the emergency services. It’s a major incident.
‘The crowds are being pushed back, they are obviously taking every precaution.’
One Twitter user wrote: ‘I’m stood here after getting evacuated from Piccadilly, at least 150 police from a suspicious package on a bus.’
Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted: ‘Due to a Police Incident Parker Street, Piccadilly is closed.’
