New York Governor Andrew Cuomo circulates a veiled threat toward President Donald Trump.
Trump better have an army! After Trump vowed to drag federal funding from cities “allowing anarchy” Governor Cuomo says President Trump would need an “army” to walk safely through the streets of NYC.
Earlier Cuomo in an emergency press briefing last night, denounced a White House directive issued earlier in the day. The directive ordered a review of “The use of federal funds by jurisdictions that permit anarchy, violence, and destruction in America’s cities.”
Afterward, the governor followed up a seven-minute rant against Trump with what gave the impression to be a threat of violence.
Cuomo told reporters “He cannot have enough bodyguards to pass through NY City. Forget bodyguards, he better have an Army if he thinks he is walking down the streets in NY. New Yorkers don’t want to have anything to do with him.”
Furthermore, as for the directive to stop funding for NYC “He is not a king. He thinks he is a king however he is not. He is a president.”
Meantime realizing his comments may well be taken as threatening, Cuomo tried to steer them back by adding “All I’m saying is that he is persona non grata in New York City. That’s what I meant about the bodyguards”
Nevertheless Critics quickly slammed the governor for inciting “civil war.”
Activist and author Andrew Pollack said “Governor Cuomo, the city you swore to protect is becoming a war zone under your watch. If Trump needs an Army to guard him in NYC give us a time and date. We’re on the next flight”
John Cardillo a retired NY Police officer responded that Trump already has an army. It’s known as the NYPD”. Others suggested the FBI, Secret Service and DOJ “have a talk” with the governor.
Netizens poked fun at Cuomo’s remarks concerning Covid-19 throughout the press conference. Where he repeatedly placed blame on Trump for NYC’s outbreak. One of the widest outbreaks in the country. Downplaying his role in particular his directive forcing nursing homes to intake Covid-positive citizens.
Trump’s order is to defund cities that have allowed unrest and rioting. Specifically New York City, Portland, Seattle and Washington, DC. It comes after months of protests across the country over police brutality and systemic racism.
The White House, however, argues that cities pursuing “reckless policies were derelict in their duty to protect life, liberty, and property.” Stating that it would “not allow federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones.”
