Race to find 200 Brits who returned from Crete on Wizz Air flight after eight people test positive for coronavirus

Authorities failed to tell the airline eight passengers have tested positive for Covid-19. Now health officials are trying to track down 200 British holidaymakers who flew back from Crete last week.

Race to find 200 Brits who returned from Crete: A group of friends returned to the UK on August 25th, and went for a COVID test after one of their friends on the Island had tested positive.

There should have been immediate response to trace all the passengers on the flight. However, Wizz Air told the Guardian it was only made aware of the cases when contacted by the newspaper.

Wizz Air have defended themselves saying that all their flights comply with local travel regulations. Moreover they have stated that the airline “has now informed the relevant health authorities” They are responsible for contacting and advising the 204 other passengers.

Pressure has been piling on the Government to have Greece put on the UK quarantine list following Scotland and Wales.

A spokesperson has said on the matter: ‘Anyone with symptoms across the UK should get a test as soon as possible. In addition washing hands regularly, wearing face coverings and following social distancing rules to stop the spread of the virus.’
