A young mother, aged just 24, has been stabbed while walking along a street with her 5 year old son for no apparent reason.
Mother stabbed in Manchester: She was out walking in Withington, South Manchester at around 1.30pm on Saturday when she was approached by a man holding a knife.
The attacker lunged at her, stabbing her in the leg before making off at speed on foot. Emergency services rushed her to hospital where it is said she is in a stable condition.
The also assessed her son at the scene but he did not have any injuries. Police have released photographs of a man they wish to talk to in connection with the attack.
John Robb, Detective Inspector with the Greater Manchester Police, said “it was a vicious and unprovoked attack and we are treating it as an attempted murder”. He went on to say that he understands how worrying this attack is for members of the general public. The police are working on finding the man and bringing him to justice. He asked that if anyone had concerns to speak to one of their officers.
The attacker was last seen running along Bromborough Avenue then turning in the direction of Whitfield Road. The police have asked anyone with any information to contact them as soon as possible.
