Crew members and passengers aboard a burning yacht were saved before the boat sank after catching fire off the coastline of Sardinia on the 25th August.
At least 17 people’s lives were saved reports say. Video footage shows smoke billowing from the distressed ship before it is seen being submerged in the sea.
The 155ft yacht had been sailing from Capri to Porto Cervo in Sardinia when the accident happened. It sent out a distress signal at 6am on the morning of the disaster which was picked up by coastguards in Olbia.
Two fast patrol boats were launched immediately to speed to the ship’s rescue and a helicopter was also deployed. Eight of the passengers were from Kazakhstan a report stated.
