The “I Believe I Can Fly” singer, who’s awaiting trial on a series of child sex abuse charges, was attacked by a fellow inmate reports confirm.
Kelly, 53, real name Robert Sylvester Kelly, was sitting on his bed in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago when he was assaulted.
Sources inside the prison say the inmate was angry about being on lockdown due to the coronavirus and went on the rampage where he came across Kelly.
Kelly was examined by a doctor and was not seriously injured in the fracas, which was brief and quickly broken up.
The accused rapist’s attorney Steven Greenberg declined comment to the outlet, saying only that Kelly has been a model inmate.
How spokesperson for the Federal Bureau Of Prisons wouldn’t confirm or deny the assault.
Kelly is accused of 18 federal charges that included kidnapping, forced labour, child sexual exploitation and child pornography production and obstruction of justice.
He has been denied bail on several occasions.
