There were 772 coronavirus cases on Tuesday (August 26th) making it the single biggest day for new cases since the start of the pandemic.
March 29th had set the previous record with 750 cases reported that day.
However, government ministers in Spain have said the reason for the high record-breaking numbers are due to more PCR testing going on and that if these tests had taken place during the height of the pandemic then the numbers most likely would have been higher then.
Valencia Health Minister Ana Barcelo said: “The figures reflect the efficiency of our health system in the early detection and tracing of everybody that may have been in contact with someone who has contracted the coronavirus.”
Ms Barcelo released the stats for the region with 469 in Valencia province and 209 new cases in Alicante province.
21 cases were said to occur in Pilar de la Horadada, 9 in Torrevieja, 8 in Ontinyent and 5 in Benidorm.
These cases have mostly been attributed to socialising such as bars and the reopening of leisure activities such as tennis courts.
