Dad forced to helplessly listen on phone to bear killing daughter in front of his grandson
Stephanie Blais, 44, was killed by a black bear outside their family cabin in northern Saskatchewan, Canada, last week, whilst her father Hubert Esquirol has told how he was on the phone to her at the time as the black bear attacked and heard ‘disturbing gurgling noises’.
Sadly the bear attack was witnessed by Stephanie’s nine-year-old boy Eli who was in the log cabin at the time.
Father & Grandfather Hubert has revealed what took place as he said:
“She called me to tell me that the waterline hadn’t been working and that her husband had fixed it”
“She then told her son, Eli, to run inside and grab an antenna.”
Hubert explained how these were the last words he heard from his daughter before the gurgling noises commenced.
“The sounds were very disturbing. An attack crossed my mind but attacks are one in a million.” said the father but 10 minutes later his son in law Curtis called with the devastating news that his daughter had been attacked by a black bear and had died.
He explained that when he returned home, he found his wife being attacked by the bear and how it wouldn’t let go, despite grabbing his gun and shooting it dead, his wife had no pulse and despite applying CPR she died.
Local residents and friends have now set up a go fund me page to help the family.
It pays tribute to Stephanie saying: “Our Stephanie had a zeal for life next to no one else.
“She was the most loving and passionate mother, who always spoke of how blessed she was to be able to be home and raise her children.”
It added: “She leaves behind Curtis (husband), Eli (son), Uma (daughter), Braxton (stepson).”
