Harry Day was arrested Sunday after police responded to reports of a man trying to sell an African American child at a Speedy Mart in Corbin, Kentucky.
Police said they found Day’s White Nissan parked along Spider Creek Road after witnesses described the vehicle and plate to 911 dispatchers.
Day was charged with promoting human trafficking and driving under the influence of methamphetamine.
The boy, who is only four years old, was found at his mother’s house with methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
The mother was identified as Gertrude Henson, 26 and she and Day told officers they’d been using methamphetamine.
Day pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor trafficking charge at his court hearing on Monday and was sentenced to one year in jail in Kentucky.
The boy’s mother was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and is due back in court on August 25th, according to the Knox County Detention Center.
The boy’s welfare has been unreported.
