Jet2 the budget airline carrier and holiday package company take advantage by extending flights and seats to Portugal whilst Spain remains offlist to at least August 30th
Jet2 are taking full advantage of Portugal as the demand for travel to Spain’s neighbour as bookings go through the roof according to travel agents
Rian Rodber from Haynes travel told Global247news that bookings have soared as Portugal came off the “unsafe list”
She said: “It’s gone ballistic for Portugal bookings, we are on overtime keeping up with them, Jet2 have reacted as well as other airlines to deal with the demand, we are having at least one booking every thirty minutes for the Algarve right now and it doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon”
“Many of the bookers are returning customers who normally holiday in Spain, they are fed up of waiting for Spain and taking advantage of being able to get away for some sun”
Meanwhile, Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “Customers are responding to the welcome change in government advice by booking their much-needed holidays in the Portuguese sunshine, and we are responding to that by adding more flights and seats.”
Claudia Miguel, UK director, Turismo de Portugal, said: “As a valued partner, we are delighted that Jet2.com and Jet2holidays is recommencing flights and holidays to Faro in addition to Madeira.
“We have consistently maintained our unwavering confidence in the safety of Portugal, and we are delighted to have arrived at a decision which we feel far better reflects the reality of the situation in Portugal.”
Although Spain is set to continue to suffer missing out on valued tourism as all holidays to mainland Spain and the Balearics departing up to and including August 29, 2020, will be automatically cancelled and refunded.
It said flights were now due to restart from August 30 although that will be reviewed again beforehand dependent on the current situation in Spain.
