Former ministers warn that Spain could collapse if another nationwide lockdown is imposed.
Former government minister for the country, Eduardo Serra, warned against putting the country into a second lockdown saying: “We don’t know if we have hit the ground.
“We do not know if there will be more outbreaks. Another lockdown would cause apocalyptic damage.
“With what has already happened, we know that many companies have not been able to bear it.”
In the last two weeks, there have been nearly 60,000 new cases of the virus across the country.
And just under a third of those were recorded between Friday and Monday this weekend.
Antonio Garamendi, the president of CEOE (Confederation of Employers and Industries of Spain) stated the economy would not be able to recover from a second lockdown.
He said: “I believe that the Spanish economy cannot afford it.
“That is why we have to act together.
“For example, in the case of apps, we need a much more powerful one, with intense monitoring.
“In addition, they are less invasive personally than many common applications.”
Spain has recorded 28,646 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
