Police who were called out to an incident on the river Tees at around 5pm on Monday have stated that a body has now been discovered.
The incident took place at Broken Scar in Darlington when a 15 year old boy entered the river but got into difficulties.
Police from Durham were joined by Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, the North East Ambulance Service, Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team and underwater search teams.
Durham police released a statement on Tuesday that said that they were very sorry to report that a body had been recovered from the river Tees at Broken Scar, Darlington.
They went on to say that although a search operation had been launched immediately following the reports of the teenager having gotten into difficulty, a body was found shortly before midnight. Although a formal identification has still to take place, they do believe it to be the body of the boy.
His family have been informed and thoughts are with them at this terribly sad time. They finished off by saying that his death is not being treated as suspicious.
