A nine year old Golden Labrador has saved over 100 canine lives after donating his blood for emergency transfusions.
Stumpy, a gorgeous retriever, was destined from birth to be a “seeing eye” guide dog for the blind. However, a deformity of his leg at birth meant that this would never be the case.
When he was a year old he found another purpose in life, to donate blood. He has now been given the accolade of Britain’s most highly prized blood donor dog.
Stumpy was born with a negative blood type which means that he can give blood to any other dog. Veterinarian Elly Pittaway, Stumpy’s owner, said “Stumpy obviously has no idea what he’s doing it for, but if he did, I’m sure he’d be very proud of himself.”
