A young man has died near The Clifton pub in Sedgley, near Dudley, on Saturday evening.
It is understood from early reports that he was trying to intervene in a brawl that was taking place outside the premises. West Midlands Police, who have now launched a murder inquiry, said that the 24 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries, despite the best efforts of paramedics to revive him.
Door staff of the pub had rushed to help the man and put him in the recovery position before letting another victim of the attack into the pub for their own safety.
The deceased man’s family have been notified and are being supported at this current time.
Laura Harrison, Detective Inspector with the West Midlands Police Force, said that they are currently using a forensics team at the scene to investigate and also looking through CCTV footage which may be useful. She has also urged anyone with information regarding the incident to please come forward. She went on to say that it is a very difficult time for the deceased’s family and that thoughts are with them. She finished off by saying that the investigation was still in it’s early stages but they understand he may have been trying to break up a fight when he was fatally injured.
