'Don't open doors to strangers' Spain's Costa Del Sol warns residents

Now is the time for a number of unscrupulous people to try to take advantage of residents particularly of the elderly, and Fuengirola council have taken steps to remind residents to be careful.

Any company visiting the property such as a utility or electric company must call in advance and make an pre arranged appointment rather than showing up.

If someone turns up un-announced it’s likely to be fraudsters looking to either arrange illicit gas installation inspection or who want to get into your home and steal.

If someone turns up unannounced people are advised to call the local police, more importantly so the police are aware of potential fraudsters.

The council has also advised do not give out any bank details and to keep all details private.
