Woman attempts to deliver WW2 hand grenade to police station by car

A woman who had previously found a hand grenade in her home that was left over from World War II has attempted to drive it to her nearest police station.

A ferry terminal in Jersey had to be sealed off while a bomb disposal officer had to retrieve it from the boot of her car.

The grenade was found to still be “live” and had been in her home for decades it was stated.

She had called the Jersey police who had to direct her to a safe spot in the ferry terminal to take the device from her car. The police said that it had still contained high explosives and has now been taken away for safe disposal.

Following this incident, which could have so easily had an unhappy ending, police are urging any members of the public who find old firearms or military items in their homes not to touch them, and to alert the police straight away.
