Drivers were caught out on Thursday while driving on the M25 motorway as flash flooding occurred after “rain of Biblical proportions” fell.
An onlooker said that over 20 cars were stranded and that the water was a feet high in places. Matt Hickmott, 26, told the PA Agency that there were so many cars broken down on the hard shoulder with people standing out of their vehicles and out of the way of traffic.
Another motorway user Tweeted “Junction 7 of M25 flooded. Rain of Biblical proportions. Clockwise traffic at a standstill. A video has also emerged of rainwater flowing around car wheels in Croydon.
Yellow thuderstorm warnings have been issued by the Met Office for the next five days with flash flooding and damage to buildings from hail and lightening. These warnings come after storms across the country since Tuesday caused by hot conditions and “tropical nights” where the night time temperatures have not dropped below 20C (68F).
