The island’s President Ángel Víctor Torres announced measures this Thursday afternoon.
The local government of the Canaries which includes all the islands banned smoking in all public places including bars and restaurants.
They also said masks must be worn at all times in public even when social distancing can be met.
It comes as the islands have seen an increase in the number of cases in the last week.
Nightlife on the islands has also taken a hit with nightclubs being reduced to 75% capacity in a bid to curtail the virus.
It comes as data released by the regional health authority in the Canaries has said that over 80% of all recorded cases are in those under the age of 30.
The government are to make an official announcement and have asked citizens to check government websites for detail.s
