Property developer and father-of-three Jonathan Drake, 47, has been arrested and jailed after his wife found a secret hoard of “upskirting” videos.
He literally had hundreds of video clips of views up ladies skirts on his computer at his home in Wenvoe, Wales, that had been taken without the ladies permission.
His collection, which also contained photographs of women in public toilets, was amassed over a three year period. Mr Drake’s wife, Rachel, reported his crime to South Wales Police after discovering the clips and images and he was arrested in January 2019.
The lead for the prosecution, Ieuan Bennett, told Cardiff Crown Court that the images and clips were stored on several devices at the defendants home. The court hearing heard how Mr Drake also exposed himself in some of the clips, telling one woman who confronted him “sorry, I go commando”.
His defense, Beverley Cripps, said that it was worrying how such an upstanding man could lower himself to commit these offenses. Judge Richard Williams told Mr Drake that he was “indulgent” taking photographs and video clips of the women while “contriving situations”.
He finished up by saying that “you have little insight into the harm and distress you have caused these women”. Passing sentence he ordered Mr Drake to sign on the sex offenders register for 10 years and jailed him for 14 months.
