The French government says it has recorded 2,288 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours which is up 684 cases from yesterday.
The French government’s top scientific body said of the crisis : “The situation is precarious. We could at any moment tip into a scenario that is less under control, like in Spain.
“It is highly likely that we will experience a second epidemic wave this autumn or winter.”
The authorities have enhanced public hygiene rules, with many large cities ordering people to wear masks whilst in public.
Le Monde reported that the city hall in Paris is currently in talks with officials to draw up a list of neighbourhoods where a mask rule should be enforced. They want it to include shopping areas, the banks of the Seine and parks and gardens.
