Donald Trump and his campaign claimed on social media that children were “almost immune” to coronavirus. As a result of this Facebook deleted the post whilst Twitter froze the Presidents campaign account (@Team Trump) until the tweet was removed
Facebook said the post, which was a clip from an interview with Fox News, contained “harmful Covid misinformation”.
It is not the first time that President Trump has caused controversy on social media. In June, Facebook said it had removed adverts for President Trump’s re-election campaign that featured a symbol used in Nazi Germany. Facebook said the offending ad contained an inverted red triangle similar to that used by the Nazis to label opponents such as communists.
A spokeman for Twitter said it had frozen the @TeamTrump account and that the tweet “is in violation of the Twitter Rules on COVID-19 misinformation”.
