The explosion that rattled Beruit has killed more than 100 people and left thousands of people injured.
People living in the Lebanon capital are waking to scenes of pure destruction after an explosion at the city’s port.
Major blastwaves were sent across the city causing severe damage. There were reports of damage up to 12 miles away from the centre of the blast.
Lebanese Red Cross told local broadcasters that the search for victims in the rubble will begin today. They are expecting to find more people and for the death toll to increase.
Interior Minister Mohammed Fahmi told a local TV station it appeared the blast was caused by the detonation of more than 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate that had been stored in a warehouse at the dock since being confiscated from a cargo ship in 2014.
Videos showed what looked like a fire erupting nearby moments before the blast, and local TV stations reported a fireworks warehouse was involved.
