Matt Hancock has confirmed that there is a second wave of coronavirus currently ‘rolling across Europe.’
The Health Secretary has insisted that the UK government won’t hesitate to enable emergency measures in order to protect the nation, as cases rise throughout Europe.
Matt Hancock said: ‘I am worried about a second wave. I think you can see a second wave starting to roll across Europe, and we’ve got to do everything we can to prevent it from reaching these shores, and to tackle it.’
This statement comes as the self-isolation period has been extended from 7 to 10 days when experiencing symptoms or returning to the UK from a foreign country.
Hancock said: ‘This is a decision that’s clinically led. The chief medical officer will be setting out details today.’
