A German paedophile has been identified as a key suspect in the disappearance of missing young girl Madeleine McCann who was believed to be snatched whilst on holiday in Portugal.
The alleged suspect has yet been named, is described as a white male with short blond hair, and about 6ft tall with a slim build at the time she vanished.
The date the girl went missing dates back to 2007 from where a huge investigation then proceeded with both a Portuguese and British investigation.
The child’s parents have taken a “hammering” in many social media and press quarters since the disappearance after it became apparent that they left their children unattended whilst they dined and drank liquor nearby whilst their 3 children remained asleep in the apartment, many accusations have been made over the years aimed at the parents by disgusted readers.
Christian Hoppe, from Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), stated on the country’s ZDF television channel the 43-year-old is serving a prison sentence for sex crimes and has two previous felonies for “sexual contact with girls”.
Mr Hoppe said German police have not ruled out a sexual motive for the alleged crime, which is being treated as murder by the BKA.
He went on to add that the alleged suspect may have broken into an apartment in the Ocean Club complex in Praia da Luz – where Madeleine was on holiday with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, and her twin sisters Sean and Amelie – before kidnapping her from the apartment.
A BKA appeal said: “There is reason to assume that there are other persons, apart from the suspect, who have concrete knowledge of the course of the crime and maybe also of the place where the body was left.”
The German sex offender currently in German prison is known to have been on the Algarve coast in Portugal at the time Madeleine went missing shortly before her fourth birthday.
